ACTIVISM AND WORK WITH THE UNITED NATIONS

On May 11th, 2016, Tennille Amor was appointed the title of UN Women Youth Champion, alongside other advocates for Gender Equality, Emma Watson, Abby Wambach, and Jewel. Tennille released her song, ‘I Am a Girl,’ about Gender Equality and Female Empowerment, on International Women’s Day, 2016, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The song was credited by the Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, and the rest of UN Women as being a powerful anthem for women and girls around the world. Tennille performed ‘I Am a Girl’ at a number of events during the UN’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW60), spoke on various panels and gave keynote speeches about the importance of Gender Equality and her intention to positively empower women and girls around the world through her music and philanthropic work.
The intention of ‘I Am a Girl,’ and the movement behind it, is to show girls and women around the world that they are capable of being anything they want to be in life, and provide them with positive examples of female role models, who they can aspire to be like. The initial video for the song features cameos by Kaila Mullady (the World Champion female Beatboxer), Ana “Rokafella” Garcia (one of the pioneers for female breakdancing), Monique Coleman from High School Musical, Kat Graham, Pixie Lott, ‘Project Runway Winner,’ Anya Ayoung-Chee, Vanessa Mdee, Madam Lakshmi Puri from UN Women, first female football coach, Dr. Jen Welter, Megan Rapinoe from the US Women’s soccer team, Alison Hinds, and other incredible women who stand behind the cause.
Tennille continues to perform and speak at the United Nations, and at other prestigious events around the world, sharing her important message of Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment.
